JOE CULLEN heads to World Matchplay looking to take his stage form of 2018 into the biggest tournament of the year so far.

The 29-year-old is looking to reach the last 16 in Blackpool for the first time when he takes on Gerwyn Price on Sunday afternoon.

Cullen has produced his best performances in 2018 on the European Tour, which bodes well for his chances in televised events.

The Yorkshireman has reached the quarter-finals in six of such events this year, progressing to the last four in the Austrian Darts Open.

Cullen, who has two PDC ProTour titles to his name, missed out on a final place in Graz in a last-leg decider against Welshman Price – and will have the chance to avenge that defeat at the Winter Gardens.

The tie is expected to be one of the most entertaining bouts in the first round and it would be no great surprise to see Cullen knock out his seeded opponent.

‘Matchplay Men’ is a series of preview articles by Chris Murphy, featuring the eight MODUS-represented players who are featuring in the 2018 BetVictor World Matchplay.
