NETHERLANDS AND AUSTRALIA both won through to the second round of the BetVictor World Cup of Darts with pairs victories on Friday evening in Hamburg.

The Dutch team, captained by Michael Van Gerwen, enjoyed a 5-0 victory over Spain as the world number one and new teammate Jermaine Wattimena set up a Saturday night meeting with Poland.

Australia, captained by Simon Whitlock, will meet Canada in round two after ‘The Wizard’ and Kyle Anderson won a last-leg decider against Finland.

“It means the world to us,” said Whitlock, who was a finalist in 2012. “We are so passionate about our country and this is a great win for us.

“To go 140 and 140 in the last leg you get a little bit of a cushion and we took full advantage of it. I’d love to win this tournament – we play well together and are a great team.”
