Michael van Gerwen returned to the top of the Premier League Darts table with a 7-5 victory over Gary Anderson in Leeds, where a record 11,000-strong crowd welcomed the tournament to West Yorkshire for the first time.

van Gerwen hit back from being 5-4 behind to topple Anderson, moving ahead of Peter Wright – who he faces in Dublin next week – on legs difference.

Simon Whitlock and Robert Thornton both earned draws against Dave Chisnall and Adrian Lewis respectively, while Raymond van Barneveld and Wright also shared the points.

Phil Taylor defeated Wes Newton in the evening’s other match.
