Robert Thornton produced a string of strong showings to reach his first Grand Slam of Darts final but was denied a second PDC major by world number one Phil Taylor on Sunday evening.

Former UK Open winner Thornton continued the good form that saw him win a Players Championship event in Killarney at the end of October, winning five matches over nine days in Wolverhampton before succumbing to ‘The Power’ in the decider.

Robert Thornton reached his first Grand Slam of Darts semi-final with a commanding victory over Tony O’Shea on Friday evening.

Vincent van der Voort earned the right to play in next week’s Grand Slam of Darts after winning through Monday’s wildcard qualifier in Wigan.

The rapid Dutchman was one of four men to take up a place at the Wolverhampton tournament as he, Justin Pipe, Peter Wright and Stuart Kellett fought their way through a field of over 180 hopefuls competing for a spot in the televised event. (more…)

Robert Thornton won his second Pro Tour event of 2013 with victory in the Gleanegale Hotel Players Championship in Killarney on Saturday, while fellow Scotsman John Henderson enjoyed his best performance of the year with a fine run to the quarter-finals. (more…)
