MICHAEL VAN GERWEN defeated Gary Anderson in stunning style with a 6-1 semi-final success over his fellow two-time World Champion at Alexandra Palace on Sunday.

Van Gerwen will meet Michael Smith in the final of the William Hill World Championship after an incredible demolition of Anderson.

The world number one edged the first set 3-2 before winning 12 of the following 13 legs to lead 5-0 in a relentless onslaught that his opponent was powerless to stop.

Anderson managed to get a set on the board but Van Gerwen finished the job in seven sets to reach the sport’s showpiece final for the fourth time in his career.

“I think I played really well, Gary couldn’t find his form and I took advantage of that,” said Van Gerwen, who ended the tie with a 104.76 average.

“The pressure I put on Gary meant he wasn’t at his best, I didn’t give him any time to breathe with my finishing.

“It’s going to be a phenomenal final against Michael and myself, I’ve got a great record against him and I’m looking forward to it.

“I’m working hard week after week, so I’m glad that I was able to produce my best game on this occasion.”
