MICHAEL VAN GERWEN moved to the top of the Unibet Premier League Darts table after defeating Simon Whitlock in Leeds on Thursday evening.

The reigning champion triumphed 7-4 in front of over 8,000 fans at the First Direct Arena to take top spot in the league for the first time this season.

Van Gerwen took out a crucial 110 finish in the sixth leg to level the match before winning four out of the next five legs to claim two points.
