SIMON WHITLOCK enjoyed his best run of the year so far as he reached the final of the inaugural Danish Darts Open in Copenhagen on Sunday.

The former European Champion defeated Jermaine Wattimena, Ricky Evans, Mervyn King and Steve West before being denied a second European Tour title by Mensur Suljovic in the decider.

The run was well timed by Whitlock, who feels like he his finding his best form ahead of next month’s World Matchplay.

“I’m getting better as the year goes on,” said the world number eight.

“That bodes well for the second half of the year with all the big TV tournaments coming up. I’m really excited about what I can achieve.”

Whitlock will next be in action at a double-header of Players Championship events in Barnsley on Tuesday and Wednesday before heading to Hamburg for the ninth European Tour event of 2018 next weekend.

West also impressed with a second run to a semi-final in three weeks, while Joe Cullen made it an incredible six quarter-finals from eight European Tour events this year.
