SIMON WHITLOCK AND MARK WEBSTER (pictured) both enjoyed their best results of 2018 so far with good runs at Players Championship Eight in Barnsley.

The pair met in the quarter-finals on Sunday, with Whitlock going on to reach the last four before losing out to Adrian Lewis.

The highlight of Webster’s run was a 6-3 last 16 success over five-time World Champion Raymond Van Barneveld, in which the left-hander won the last four legs and averaged 102.

The Welsh ace had earlier seen off Terry Jenkins, Kyle Anderson and Zoran Lerchbacher.

Whitlock completed a fine week, which included a run to the quarter-finals of the German Darts Grand Prix and a Premier League victory over Gerwyn Price, with his run to the semi-finals.

Robert Thornton defeated world number four Gary Anderson as he reached the last 16 for the second consecutive day.

Fellow Scotsman John Henderson had continued his good form on Saturday by reaching the quarter-finals of Players Championship seven.
