STEVE WEST’s recent rise continued as he reached his first televised PDC quarter-final after a brilliant run at the Coral UK Open in Minehead last weekend.

West, who is now up to 26th in the main Order of Merit, kicked off his campaign with a 10-9 victory against Darryl Pilgrim in the third round before defeating Matthew Edgar 10-7.

The Essex ace then claimed an impressive 10-9 triumph against in-form Michael Smith, who currently sits top of the Premier League table, to reach the last eight.

There, his fantastic run came to an end when he lost out to David Pallett.

“I was disappointed not to go even further,” admitted West, who will be back in ProTour action in Barnsley this weekend.

“I had a big opportunity and couldn’t find my best game against David but I’ve reached a quarter-final in a major PDC event and beaten one of the best players at the moment in Michael Smith along the way.

“Overall it has been a positive weekend for me and it gives me great confidence to take into the rest of this year and beyond.”
