JONNY CLAYTON and MICHAEL VAN GERWEN moved into the knockout stages of the bwin Grand Slam of Darts with victories in Wolverhampton on Tuesday.

Clayton (pictured), who had edged a thrilling match against Van Gerwen 48 hours earlier, topped Group A by winning all three of his round robin matches.

The Welsh ace defeated Gary Robson 5-3 before Van Gerwen ensured he would also progress with a 5-1 victory over Joe Murnan.

The pair join fellow MODUS star Simon Whitlock in the last 16, following the Australian’s sensational comeback win against Gerwyn Price on Monday.

Whitlock is back in action on Wednesday night when he takes on world number two Peter Wright for a place in the quarter-finals.

Clayton faces Krzysztof Ratajski on Thursday before Van Gerwen meets Michael Smith.
