Robert Thornton has expressed his delight after extending his partnership with top darts manufacturers Red Dragon Darts.

The Scotsman, who has been working with Red Dragon since 2011, has agreed a new four year sponsorship deal after an extremely successful couple of years.

Former Winmau World Masters winner Thornton claimed his first PDC major triumph in 2012, when he won the UK Open – and his continued progression has seen him rise into the top ten in the world rankings.

‘The Thorn’ is about to begin his second season in the Premier League and his aiming for a big year following this boost.

“I’m so pleased to sign with Red Dragon for another four years,” said Thornton, who meets Dave Chisnall in Liverpool on Thursday.

“My career has gone to another level in the last few years and they are a massive part of what I’ve achieved.

“I’m very grateful for their support and it is a great confidence boost to re-sign on a long-term deal ahead of the Premier League.

“I really enjoyed playing in it last season and I think I settled in well. Now it’s time to really make my mark and if I perform like I can consistently, there is no reason why I can’t be in those Play-Offs at the O2 this time.

“I hope this great news is the start of another great year and I’m looking to win another major in 2014.”

Thornton came close to adding to his televised title haul when he was runner-up in the Grand Slam of Darts in 2013, while he also won three Pro Tour events and hit a nine-dart-finish.

He is currently ninth on the PDC Order of Merit.
