James Wade and Simon Whitock will meet in the quarter-finals of the Bet Victor World Matchplay for the second consecutive year, while world number one Michael van Gerwen also progressed to the last eight in Blackpool.

Wade eased past Richie Burnett, Whitlock put paid to Raymond van Barneveld’s hopes and van Gerwen saw off Ian White but there was heartbreak for Paul Nicholson, who lost out to Wes Newton in a tiebreak.
