MICHAEL VAN GERWEN enjoyed double success in Barnsley at the weekend as the world number took victory in each of the first two Players Championship events of the year.
Van Gerwen, who had already won the Masters and two UK Open Qualifiers in 2018, continued his winning streak with back-to-back tournament triumphs.
The two-time World Champion defeated James Wade in Saturday’s final before seeing off Corey Cadby in the decider on Sunday to scoop £20,000 in prize money for his weekend’s work.
