MICHAEL VAN GERWEN will once again be the number one seed for the BetVictor World Matchplay later this month in Blackpool, where eight MODUS-represented players will be in action.

World number one van Gerwen is a two-time champion at the Winter Gardens, having taken the prestigious title in both 2015 and 2016.

The Dutchman qualifies via the PDC Order of Merit along with Australia’s Simon Whitlock, who is seed number seven.

Each of the seeded players will be drawn in the first round against one of 16 qualifiers, who have earned the spots via the PDC ProTour Order of Merit.

Austrian Darts Open champion Jonny Clayton and two-time PDC title winner Joe Cullen lead the field of qualifiers.

Steve West, John Henderson and Keegan Brown are set for returns to Blackpool, while Richard North joins Clayton in making his debut.
