SIMON WHITLOCK enjoyed a run to a final on the European Tour for the second time in 2018 but was denied glory in the final of the International Darts Open by Gerwyn Price in Riesa on Sunday.
‘The Wizard’ prepared for next weekend’s Champions League of Darts with a strong showing in Germany, where he defeated James Wilson, Steve Beaton and James Richardson to reach the semi-finals.
There, he defeated Dutchman Danny Noppert 7-2 before losing out to Price in the decider.
“It’s a long day and I have to work on things because the couple of finals I’ve reached this year have ended up being my worst performances of the tournament.
“I am very proud to be there though and all the credit goes to Gerwyn, who was the better player.
“I just love playing darts and I want to play in everything so I’m really thrilled to have made it back into the world’s top eight and look forward to playing in the Champions League.”
