FORMER WORLD GRAND PRIX CHAMPION ROBERT THORNTON was amongst five MODUS stars to progress into the second round in Dublin.
2015 winner Thornton defeated Belgium’s Kim Huybrechts in a last leg decider on Sunday, while fellow Scotsman John Henderson enjoyed one of the biggest wins of his career as he knocked out world number one Michael van Gerwen.
Simon Whitlock produced a gutsy 108 finish to triumph against Christian Kist, who had missed a dart for victory before the Australian struck.
Steve West, who had beaten Phil Taylor in round one a year ago, defeated another former champion in James Wade.
Richard North saw off Mark Webster on his TV debut and will face Whitlock in round two.
Thornton faces Dave Chisnall in the last 16 on Tuesday before Henderson meets Alan Norris.
West is up against Mensur Suljovic in the last 16 on Wednesday.
