Scotland’s Robert Thornton earned himself a draw when Premier League Darts reached Glasgow on Thursday evening as defending champion Michael van Gerwen suffered his first defeat.
Thornton followed up last week’s victory over Gary Anderson with a 6-6 draw against Wes Newton, upping his points tally to three.
World number one van Gerwen was defeated 7-5 by an inspired Raymond van Barneveld, who averaged over 107 at The Hydro. The Dutch pair both have six points after four matches and sit in second and third in the table.
Simon Whitlock‘s difficult start continued with a defeat at the hands of Phil Taylor, who sealed his first victory, while Peter Wright and Gary Anderson both triumphed in front of their home fans.
Week five sees the tournament visit Exeter next Thursday, where Whitlock takes on Newton, van Gerwen faces Lewis and Thornton meets league leader Wright.
