JAMIE LEWIS showed signs of a return to the kind of form that took him all the way to the semi-finals of last year’s World Championship, as he reached the last eight of the bwin World Series of Darts Finals in Vienna.

Lewis produced his highest ever televised average in a stunning opening round victory over Dimitri Van Den Bergh, with the Welshman posting an incredible 109.8 three-dart average.

He went on to knock out World Champion Rob Cross before losing out to eventual champion James Wade in the quarter-finals.

“I’m over the moon with that performance, I haven’t had a great year but I felt that was coming,” said Lewis, following his win over Van Den Bergh.

“I lost my grandfather last week, it’s been a really hard week but I knew I was going to come out here and do well for him.”

Simon Whitlock also reached the quarter-finals after defeating Daryl Gurney – but his run was ended by Gerwyn Price.

Michael Van Gerwen’s three-year reign as World Series of Darts Finals Champion came to an end at the same stage at the hands of Dutch rival Raymond van Barneveld.
