JONNY CLAYTON was crowned 2018 Austrian Darts Open Champion after a brilliant campaign in Graz.

The Welsh ace secured the £25,000 title by beating compatriot Gerwyn Price 8-5 in Sunday’s final after seeing off the likes of James Wade, Ian White and home favourite Mensur Suljovic.

The victory sees Clayton secure his debut at the World Matchplay in July and in October’s World Grand Prix, along with appearances at many other big TV majors. .

“I’m over the moon,” said Clayton, who is also set to appear alongside Price at the World Cup of Darts.

“It all came together and it is a huge win for me. It changes the year ahead and I’m really excited about it.”

‘The Ferret’ won his first PDC title at the end of last year before going on a sensational run to the final of the Players Championship finals in Minehead.

The weekend’s European Tour glory is the biggest win of his PDC career, which only began four years ago.
