Michael van Gerwen produced a brilliant performance on night six of Premier League Darts as he returned to form with a 7-1 thrashing of Wes Newton in Nottingham.

The world number one, who had suffered his first loss a fortnight ago before drawing with Adrian Lewis last week, bounced back from his UK Open semi-final defeat by posting a 105.05 average in a dominant display on Thursday evening.

Robert Thornton upped his points tally to five but will disappointed not to have beaten Raymond van Barneveld after missing match darts in the final leg, while there was further frustration for Simon Whitlock, who lost out to league leader Peter Wright.
