SIMON WHITLOCK enjoyed a fabulous run to the final of the German Darts Grand Prix in Munich on Easter Monday, signalling a return to form for the Australian.

Former European Champion Whitlock followed up Sunday’s victory over Cristo Reyes with a last 16 success against Ross Smith on Monday afternoon.

He then defeated fellow MODUS star Joe Cullen in the quarter-finals before a win over Germany’s Max Hopp booked his place in the decider.

Whitlock lost out to world number one Michael van Gerwen in the final but was pleased with his weekend’s work.

“I’m really happy to have a good run,” said Whitlock, who reached his first final since the European Championship last October.

“Michael was too strong in the final but after a poor start to the year it was great for me to get to there.

“I played some good stuff at important times over the weekend and feel like this can really kick-start my season.”
