MICHAEL VAN GERWEN missed out on a fourth consecutive Ladbrokes Players Championship Finals title after a dramatic defeat to Daryl Gurney on Sunday.

Van Gerwen had eased past Steve Lennon 10-3 to reach the semi-finals, where he defeated Gary Anderson in thrilling showdown.

But the title was to be Gurney’s after he came from 9-8 down to seal an 11-9 victory.

Fellow Dutchman Danny Noppert reached the semi-finals, where his superb run was ended by Gurney.
